In a sharp intervention in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar accused the state government of failing to uphold democratic practices in the cooperative sector and neglecting commitments on women’s representation.
Speaking during the session, Singhar alleged that elections to cooperative credit societies have remained stalled since 2017–18, raising serious concerns over transparency and grassroots participation.
He further pointed out that out of 11 positions, only one seat has been allocated to women, questioning the government’s claims of promoting 33% reservation in cooperative institutions.
Calling it a “double standard,” Singhar criticized what he described as a gap between ground realities and political promises. He remarked that while rights are being restricted at the village level, large commitments are being projected on public platforms.
