Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has outlined a cooperative-led plan to increase the income of livestock farmers in West Bengal by improving animal breeds, husbandry practices and market access.
In his latest remarks, Shah said advanced-breed animals would be made available to livestock farmers, with the potential to produce at least 25% more milk than existing animals. He said the combination of better breeds, improved animal husbandry and assured markets would give fresh momentum to the income and prosperity of Bengal’s livestock farmers.
Shah also underlined the potential of Bengal’s dairy products in the national market, saying mishti doi produced at the plant would reach households across the country, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Gujarat to Bengal.
The remarks highlight the government’s emphasis on strengthening the dairy cooperative ecosystem by improving productivity at the farmer level while creating wider and more assured markets for milk and value-added dairy products.
The initiative is aligned with the Ministry of Cooperation’s broader “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” approach, under which dairy cooperatives are being promoted as instruments for increasing farmer incomes and expanding rural economic activity.
