Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Union Cabinet approved a fertilizer subsidy of Rs 37,952 crore for the Rabi season 2025-26.
Shah said the decision reflects the Modi government’s continuous commitment to farmers’ prosperity and its priority to safeguard their interests in every sector.
Effective from October 1, 2025, the subsidy aims to boost crop yields and support farmers during the upcoming Rabi sowing season. The move will ensure that fertilizers such as DAP, NPK, and complex varieties remain available to farmers at affordable prices.
The decision is expected to lower production costs for cultivators, improve agricultural productivity, and further strengthen the rural economy.
The Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan also thanked Prime Minister on behalf of all farmers.
Additionally, during a review meeting chaired by Chouhan, it was conveyed that sowing during the Kharif 2025 season has been highly satisfactory. The total sown area for paddy has reached 441.58 lakh hectares, higher than last year.
The total area under oilseeds has been recorded at 190.13 lakh hectares, with soybean and groundnut being the major crops. Similarly, pulses have been sown on 120.41 lakh hectares, marking an important step toward nutritional security, while the sugarcane area stands at 59.07 lakh hectares, benefiting sugarcane growers directly.
