The Office of the Cooperative Ombudsman under the Ministry of Cooperation has directed Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Multi State Cooperative Credit Society Ltd., Satara, Maharashtra, to refund a fixed deposit of Rs 25 lakh, along with applicable interest, to Panton Constructions Pvt. Ltd. within 30 days.

According to the Ombudsman’s order dated August 3, 2026, the complainant had invested Rs 25 lakh in a one-year fixed deposit with the society on November 18, 2024. After the deposit matured, the company repeatedly sought repayment, including through an email dated January 27, 2026, but received neither the maturity amount nor any response from the society.

The Cooperative Ombudsman issued notices to the society on May 6 and May 27, 2026, seeking its reply. However, the notices went unanswered and were returned with the remark “left address.” Emails sent by the Ombudsman’s office also elicited no response.

Observing that the society had failed to communicate with either the depositor or the Ombudsman’s office, the Ombudsman concluded that it had shown no intention of refunding the deposit.

The society has now been directed to pay the due amount with up-to-date interest within 30 days and submit a compliance report immediately thereafter.
