The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the Directions imposed on the Suri Friends’ Union Co-operative Bank Ltd., Suri, West Bengal, by another three months, keeping the bank under regulatory restrictions until January 22, 2027.
The extension, announced on October 22, 2026, will take effect from the close of business on October 22, 2026, and remain valid until the close of business on January 22, 2027, subject to review.
The bank was initially placed under RBI Directions on July 21, 2022, for six months. Since then, the restrictions have been extended periodically, with the previous extension running until October 22, 2026.
The RBI said it considered the further extension necessary in the public interest. The latest directive has been issued under Section 35A read with Section 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
Importantly, the central bank clarified that the extension should not be construed as an indication that it is satisfied with the bank’s financial position. All other terms and conditions of the existing Directions will remain unchanged.
