Raje loan waiver fails to enthuse farmers

The announcement of the farm loan waiver of up to Rs 50,000 by chief minister Vasundhara Raje has not mollified the anger of farmers in Rajasthan. They have threatened to go ahead with their planned agitation, reports Times of India.

Describing the loan waiver as inadequate, many Kisan leaders said this does not meet the demands of farmers. Meanwhile, sensing trouble the government has begun working to divide the farmers’ movement.

The farm loan concession is “a one-time loan waiver of Rs 50,000 for small and marginal farmers in the overdue and outstanding category of short-term crop loans provided by cooperative banks”. Kisan leaders assert that their demand was for agriculture loans of all farmers.
