Rai vows to promote interest of dairy farmers

Mangal Jit Rai, Chairman of National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India Ltd who has been elected to the Governing Council of NCUI has said that he would use the platform in solving the issues of millions of dairy farmers, reads a press release sent by NCDFI.

Rai said, “It is a great honour for me to represent millions of dairy farmers at another esteemed national level cooperative forum. I see my election to NCUI Governing Council as an opportunity to bring some valuable insight from the cooperative dairy sector to reinforce the cooperative framework of the country, and replicate the sector-level success in other potential areas contributing to the promotion of cooperative agendas in general”.

Rai is Sikkim State President of Sahakar Bharati. Rai is also part of the Cooperative Development Forum, which was launched in July 2020 to provide regulatory assistance to the existing cooperatives and strengthen the cooperative design across the sectors in the country.

NCDFI, an apex body of dairy cooperatives in India, follows a vertically integrated multi-tier structure with 27 State Cooperative Dairy Federations at the top followed by 218 District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Unions and 1.73 lakh Village Cooperative Milk Producers’ Societies at the bottom. 163 lakh dairy farmers are associated with dairy cooperatives.

NCDFI has been facilitating the working of dairy cooperatives through coordination, networking, and advocacy. Its core activities include – Coordinating the Institutional sale of quality Milk and Milk Products to the Ministry of Defence, IRCTC, ITBP, etc., Genetic Improvement through the distribution of Superior Animal Genetics, and Cooperative Development through Capacity Building.
