Proposals for computerization of 55K PACS from States: Shah

“At present, proposals for computerization of 54,752 PACS have been received from States/UTs and central share amounting to Rs. 201.18 crore has been released for the procurement of hardware, digitization of legacy data and establishing support system”, said Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.

While replying to a query raised by a Lok Sabha member, he added, “Computerization of PACS will provide various benefits such as increasing the efficiency of their operations, ensuring speedy disbursal of loans, lowering of transaction costs, reducing imbalances in payments, seamless accounting with DCCBs and StCBs and increasing transparency”.

“Implementation of Common Accounting System (CAS) and Management Information System (MIS) would enable PACS to carry out their operations online and obtain refinance/ loans for their various activities from NABARD through DCCBs and StCBs”, he added.

There are nearly 1 lakh Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS)/ Large Area Multi-Purpose Societies (LAMPS) with a member base of around 13 crore farmers. A Centrally sponsored project for Computerization of 63,000 functional PACS/ LAMPS across the country with a total financial outlay of Rs. 2,516 Crore is under implementation.
