Former Union Minister Sharad Pawar urged Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis to form a commission to study the challenges facing sugar cooperatives, which have seen a shift from 80% cooperative ownership to 50% private.
Speaking at a symposium on International Cooperative Day, Pawar emphasized the need for policy support to protect the sector.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar echoed concerns, calling for strict action against those misusing cooperative institutions and joining ruling parties to evade scrutiny.
Both leaders highlighted the cooperative sector’s critical role in Maharashtra’s economy and called for reforms to strengthen it.
