Out of sync: CPI(M) opposes formation of new ministry

CPI(M) mouthpiece People’s Democracy has called upon states to oppose the multistate co-op amendment bill. The bill was recently introduced in the Parliament and seeks to bring transparency and closer monitoring of multi state co-ops in the country.

The piece in the mouthpiece finds fault even with the formation of the ministry of cooperation and says it’s a brazen attempt to infringe on the turf of states. Interestingly, almost all the co-operators without an exception have welcomed the move of the Modi govt to form a Separate Ministry on co-ops.

The party stated that after the Supreme Court ruled in October 2022 that the 97th amendment would not be applicable to local cooperative societies but only multi-state cooperative societies, the government decided to use the multi-state cooperative society route to intervene in the states, reports PTI.
