On Priyanka’s nudge, govt plans action against co-op banks

“The Karnataka government is planning to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate irregularities in cooperative banks,” stated Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

Referring to alleged financial frauds in Sri Guru Raghavendra Sahakara Bank and Sri Vasista Credit Souharda Sahakari Limited, Shivakumar said, “There are 30 lakh depositors whose funds are stuck, out of which 300 have died.”

Action will be taken in this regard after the election, and justice will be provided to the victims.

“Priyanka Gandhi has asked the Chief Minister and me to consider constituting an SIT and take action in accordance with law. Immediately after the election, we will decide on this and ensure justice,” Shivakumar is quoted saying.
