Odisha government will procure pulses and oil seeds from farmers at MSP through Odisha State Cooperative Marketing Federation (Markfed) in order to prevent farmers from selling their produce at a loss, reports Indian Express.
This is prompted by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (Nafed] undertaking such exercises all over the country together with state Government agencies. The money spent will be reimbursed by Nafed.
PACS and Regulated Market Committees (RMCs) will help Markfed in the procurement of these crops from farmers.
Nafed was recently in the news for clearing all its dues to the banks in one stroke. The organization serves the farmers throughout the country by implementing the Price Support Scheme of Govt. of India for Oilseeds, Pulses, Copra & Cotton.
During the last three years, the Federation has made record procurement of Oilseeds & Pulses at MSP under PSS. Further it has been the major agency having procured around 90% of the buffer target of Pulses
