In a major step towards sustainable dairy packaging, Meenesh Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board and Mother Dairy, unveiled India’s first naturally degradable milk pouch in the presence of Mother Dairy Managing Director Jayatheertha Chary.
The eco-friendly packaging, set to be launched across Delhi NCR on June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day, is designed to naturally decompose into soil elements without affecting the quality or taste of milk.
Officials described the initiative as a significant cooperative-sector innovation aimed at reducing plastic waste and promoting environmentally responsible dairy operations. The biodegradable milk pouch is expected to support the government’s broader vision of a “Plastic-Free India” while encouraging sustainable packaging solutions in the dairy industry.
The development marks an important milestone for India’s cooperative dairy sector, with NDDB and Mother Dairy positioning themselves at the forefront of green innovation and environmentally conscious consumer practices.
