The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) organised a Capacity Building Programme for a delegation from Sri Lanka comprising dairy farmers and entrepreneurs, aimed at strengthening cooperation and knowledge exchange in the dairy sector.
As part of the programme, the delegation, led by Sisira Piyasiri Henarath Hetti Arachchige, Director, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, Government of Sri Lanka, visited the National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India Limited (NCDFI).
During the visit, an interactive session was held highlighting NCDFI’s key role in promoting cooperative-led dairy development in India through institutional marketing initiatives, policy advocacy and the #NCDFIeMarket, an innovative digital market platform. The session provided valuable insights into transparent price discovery mechanisms and technology-enabled market access for dairy and allied agricultural commodities.
Members of the Sri Lankan delegation actively participated in the discussions and showed keen interest in India’s cooperative dairy model and digital market practices. They appreciated the role of cooperatives in ensuring fair returns to farmers while strengthening market efficiency and sustainability.
The delegation expressed its intent to explore the adaptation of India’s cooperative and digital market approaches to strengthen Sri Lanka’s dairy ecosystem, enhance farmer participation and improve market transparency.
