Speaking on the occasion of onboarding of co-operatives on the GeM portal recently in Delhi, Union Minister Amit Shah said in a lighter vein that NCUI has enough funds to run two cooperative universities.
Giving details on the Ministry’s determination on the issue, the Union Minister said that the preparations to launch an exclusive Cooperative University are afoot and a roadmap is being prepared for it.
It bears recalling that NCUI has a huge corpus of several hundred crores for the purpose of cooperative education and training. It collects 1% of profit from profit-making co-ops every year and the fund has swollen to Rs 300 crores. There is a tug of war between the govt and NCUI who will keep the money.
The University would offer both degrees and diploma courses. While NCUI would run the University, it would be managed by the government, said Shah. All the different modules of co-op training and education would be integrated into one so that a comprehensive syllabus could be formulated, said a Ministry official later while talking to Indian Cooperative.
Union Minister Amit Shah had earlier talked of creating a cooperative ecosystem aimed at ushering in rural prosperity. Computerized PACs, and tech savvy DCCBs will have recruits from this University who would be versed not only in co-op principles but also the latest business secrets.
