The National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation (NCCF) witnessed a strong consumer response to its mega onion sale in Ranchi, where onions were made available at a subsidised price of Rs 35 per kg.
The initiative has attracted considerable public attention amid rising retail onion prices, offering consumers an opportunity to purchase the essential kitchen staple at a significantly lower rate. NCCF has been undertaking direct sales of buffer onions at Rs 35 per kg in several locations as part of efforts to provide relief to consumers and help moderate prices.
The heavy turnout at the Ranchi sale underlines the demand for affordable essential commodities and the role of cooperative institutions in supporting consumers during periods of price pressure.
NCCF’s intervention is part of the broader government effort to utilise onion buffer stocks to augment market supplies and protect consumers from sharp price increases. The cooperative has been among the agencies involved in distributing buffer onions through direct retail channels.
The Ranchi initiative reflects NCCF’s consumer-first approach, with subsidised onions being taken directly to the public through organised sales points and mobile vans.
