National Workshop focuses on strengthening Potato Seed Sector

A national consultative workshop on the potato seed sector began in New Delhi, bringing together scientists, industry experts and cooperative representatives to deliberate on building a robust and farmer-centric seed ecosystem. The two-day event was organized by the Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited and inaugurated by Ashish Bhutani, Secretary (Cooperation), Government of India.

Addressing participants, Bhutani underlined the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat 2047 and reiterated the Ministry of Cooperation’s commitment to empowering farmers through a strong cooperative framework. Discussions centred on improving seed quality, enhancing availability and leveraging cooperatives to ensure sustainable growth of the potato sector.

The workshop was guided by Yogendra Kumar, Marketing Director, IFFCO and Chairman, Bhartiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited, along with Chetan Joshi, Managing Director of the Samiti. Senior officials, including Jay Prakash Singh, also participated. Recommendations from the deliberations are expected to shape the Samiti’s long-term strategy for a resilient and self-reliant potato seed system.
