NABARD boosts Nagaland Co-op network with refinance

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has significantly strengthened the cooperative credit structure in Nagaland through refinance support, PACS computerisation and promotion of multipurpose cooperative societies, according to its latest “NABARD in Nagaland 2025-26” publication.

As per the report, NABARD sanctioned and disbursed Rs 100 crore as Direct Refinance Assistance to the Nagaland State Cooperative Bank (NStCB), marking the first such support extended to the cooperative bank in the state.

Total refinance support to NStCB and Nagaland Rural Bank stood at Rs 147.38 crore during FY 2025-26, registering a sharp 207.68% growth over the previous year.

NABARD also highlighted major cooperative sector reforms under the Ministry of Cooperation’s “Sahakar se Samriddhi” vision.

During the year, 231 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) were computerized in Nagaland to improve transparency and operational efficiency, while 67 new Multipurpose PACS (MPACS) were registered across uncovered villages and gram panchayats.

Further, NABARD supported establishment of a Business Diversification and Product Innovation Cell (BDPIC) at NStCB with project cost sharing between NABARD and the bank. The initiative enabled the cooperative bank to introduce products such as home loans and salary-linked accounts.
