A special discussion seminar on the challenges and issues faced by Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) in Mumbai was organised by the Mumbai District Central Cooperative Bank, bringing together representatives and stakeholders from the cooperative banking sector.
The seminar was inaugurated by Maharashtra Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil, while Minister of State for Cooperation Dr Pankaj Bhoyar attended as the Chief Guest. The session was chaired by the leadership of the Mumbai District Central Cooperative Bank.
The discussions focused on the operational difficulties faced by UCBs, regulatory issues, changing dynamics of the banking sector and measures required to strengthen the cooperative banking system.
Participants emphasised the need to address the concerns of urban cooperative banks in a timely manner, provide greater clarity on regulatory matters and undertake measures to make the institutions more efficient, transparent and resilient.
The government assured participants that the constructive issues and suggestions raised during the seminar would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
The seminar also highlighted the wider importance of strengthening the cooperative movement, with participants stressing that a stronger and more dynamic cooperative sector can contribute significantly to the economic development of Maharashtra.
