The Sikkim State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd. (SIMFED) and Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the availability of quality seeds and strengthen cooperative-led seed production systems in Sikkim.
The agreement was signed at Sahakari Bhawan, Tadong, Gangtok.
The MoU aims to promote collaboration between the two cooperative institutions in areas such as seed multiplication, procurement, distribution, and capacity building, with a focus on ensuring timely and affordable access to certified seeds.
The signing ceremony was attended by Jabi Thapa, Secretary-cum-Principal Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Cooperation Department, Government of Sikkim, along with senior officials of the Cooperation Department, representatives of SIMFED and BBSSL, and other stakeholders.
Officials highlighted that the partnership aligns with efforts to strengthen cooperative institutions, enhance farmer incomes, and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the State.
