Union Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol visited the Ganapathipalayam Cotton and Silk Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Production and Sales Society in Tiruppur district and reviewed the functioning of the traditional handloom cooperative.

During the visit, the Union Minister observed the live silk fabric production process and interacted with artisans engaged in weaving activities. He appreciated their skill, dedication, and perseverance, stating that handloom artisans who have preserved this heritage across generations are important contributors to the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Mohol said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Union Minister for Cooperation Amit Shah, the cooperative sector is witnessing far-reaching reforms. He emphasised that strengthening cooperative institutions is crucial for revitalising traditional industries and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for artisans.

He also highlighted that cooperative societies in Tamil Nadu are playing a significant role in strengthening the cooperative ecosystem and preserving India’s rich handloom legacy.

Tamil Nadu, particularly Tiruppur district, has 32 handloom cooperative societies, providing livelihoods to over 15,000 artisans, with many institutions functioning continuously since the 1970s. During the visit, Tamil Nadu BJP State General Secretary A.P. Muruganatham and District President K.C.M.P. Srinivasan were present.
