Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the State Assembly that the government is taking steps to strengthen cyber security across government departments and institutions, including cooperative banks.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Satyajeet Tambe, Fadnavis said the increasing use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in government offices, corporations, public institutions and other agencies has heightened the risk of cyber threats such as unauthorized access, data theft, malware and ransomware attacks.
He emphasized the need for regular technical inspections, security assessments and cyber security audits to safeguard digital systems and sensitive information.
The Chief Minister said the Maharashtra Cyber Crime Security Corporation was established on April 1, 2025, to enhance the state’s cyber security framework and promote safe cyber practices among government departments, institutions and citizens.
Fadnavis further informed the House that the government has initiated action to make cyber security audits mandatory at least once every year for government departments, government companies, public sector undertakings, cooperative banks and other government-controlled institutions.
He added that the Electronics, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Department is identifying critical infrastructure entities whose cyber security audits will be prioritised from the 2026-27 financial year.
