Maha fines sugar mills for crushing without licenses

Maharashtra’s cooperative department has fined several sugar mills for crushing canes without licenses, reports Indian Express.

The cooperative dept has asked sugar mills to pay penalties amounting to Rs. 38 crore, otherwise action will be taken against them.

All the nine sugar mills are located in the Western region of Maharashtra — the sugar belt of the state. The dept has also called on the mills to pay farmers FRP.
