Co-op elections saw a low point on Wednesday in Lakhimpur in Uttar Pradesh when two factions clashed leading to the beating up of a local MLA by the husband of the outgoing Chairman.
Tensions escalated during the Lakhimpur Urban Cooperative Bank election when BJP MLA Yogesh Verma’s supporters were not given forms meant for the nomination of delegates.
Video which has gone viral since, shows district lawyer president Awadhesh Singh’s faction slapping Verma. Interestingly, both the factions claim allegiance to the BJP.
Local BJP leaders met with officials demanding a fair election.
