In a major push to promote high-value agricultural exports, the Horticulture Department of Ladakh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Co-operative Exports Limited (NCEL).
The agreement, signed at the World Trade Centre, New Delhi, aims to strengthen export linkages for Ladakh’s agricultural and allied produce through the cooperative framework. The Horticulture Department will act as the nodal agency to identify export-quality produce from cooperative societies, while NCEL will facilitate market access, capacity building, and end-to-end export support.
The Cooperative Department of Ladakh will coordinate implementation and help strengthen the local cooperative ecosystem. The three-year pact focuses on enhancing farmers’ income by enabling better price realization in domestic and global markets.
Importantly, the MoU provides for transparent mechanisms, including direct payments to cooperatives wherever feasible.
A joint committee comprising officials from the Horticulture Department, NCEL, and other stakeholders will oversee implementation and ensure regular monitoring of progress.
