The nationwide ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’, launched under the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare to promote balanced fertiliser use and sustainable farming, has evolved into a major mass movement, connecting more than 9.42 lakh farmers across the country by June 4, 2026.

Under the campaign, 17,834 awareness programmes have been organised with participation from nearly 6.98 lakh farmers, while 3,698 training sessions provided scientific guidance on soil health and nutrient management to over 1.57 lakh participants. Around 8,850 field demonstrations showcased organic nutrient sources and integrated nutrient management practices aimed at reducing excessive chemical fertiliser use.

The initiative also saw participation from panchayat representatives, FPOs, SHGs and input dealers. Through radio, television, digital outreach and social media campaigns, the message of balanced fertiliser use and soil conservation has reached nearly 3.5 crore people nationwide.
