KDCCB: Telugu Desham in, YSRC out

In a major jolt to YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in his home district, the Telugu Desam has grabbed the Kadapa District Cooperative Central Bank chairman’s post. Senior leader Veerashiva Reddy’s son G. Anilkumar Reddy was elected KDCCB chairman after the YSRC-backed directors boycotted the election on Sunday, reports Deccan Chronicle.

The election was postponed on Saturday due to lack of quorum and was held on Sunday even without the quorum. Mr Anilkumar Reddy is the president of the primary agricultural cooperative society from Erragudi. The election was necessitated because YSRC-backed M.

Thirumal Reddy was declared ineligible to be KDCCB chairman after he was unseated by a no-confidence motion from the PACS at Duvvur two weeks ago. Of the 21 directors, 17 were eligible to vote. TD, which backs eight of them, secured the support of two more — backed by the YSRC.

Accusing the TD of cheap tricks to grab the post without majority, the YSRC-backed boycotted the elections. Senior leader Veerashiva Reddy reportedly succeeded in securing support for the TD. Mr Anilkumar Reddy was the only person to file his nominations, and was declared elected. YSRC leaders led by Kadapa MP Avinash Reddy had made a serious effort to retain the chairman’s post but failed. Sources said Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy had also tried to bring unity among the directors but in vain.

YSRC MLA Ravindranath Reddy said the state government was encouraging TD cadres to damage the YSRC in Kadapa district. “It is shameful that the TD leaders celebrating victory of KDCCB chairman post even without majority.”
