Even as the India-US trade agreement sparks debate over a possible rise in imports of animal feed such as Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles and red sorghum, India’s dairy sector is unlikely to face any disruption, according to Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, media reports quote.

Describing the pact as a major gain for farmers, Mehta said the agreement has safeguarded domestic dairy and agriculture interests while significantly enhancing export competitiveness. He noted that concerns around market access to dairy and agriculture had been effectively addressed, ensuring protection for Indian producers.

At the same time, the deal offers a strong push to exports, with tariffs on Indian dairy exports to the US reduced sharply from 50 percent to 18 percent, delivering a substantial boost to both the dairy and agriculture sectors.
