IFFCO: Two group of workers clash at Paradip unit

IFFCO’s railway siding at Paradip in Odisha recently witnessed a roiling tension when workers of two labor unions clashed, reports New Indian Express.

Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL) has taken the contract for cargo operations in the IFFCO plant and hired about 1,600 workers. While over thousand workers are with IFFCO Workers’ Union (IWU), the rest are affiliated to Paradip Erasama Industrial Workers’ Union (EPIWU).

Sources say workers of IWU and EPIWU have often been indulging in accusation and counter-accusation and fighting. There are several cases pending in Paradip police station.

IFFCO officials claim, as there was a shortage of rail wagons, the labour unrest did not affect the handling of fertilizer bags at the railway siding.
