IFFCO bid to save endangered plant species

In yet another first, IFFCO has taken upon itself the task of protecting endangered plant species and the effort had its beginnings in MD Dr U S Awasthi’s visit to Aonla.

Mrs Rekha Awasthi, wife of IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi and an ardent supporter of culture and ecology in her own right planted the first tree in Bareli. Those present on the occasion included MD himself, Marketing Director Yogendra Kumar, Unit Head GK Gautam, among others.

IFFCO has taken a huge patch of land measuring 50 acre to revive about 50 endangered species of plants to begin with. The MD’s visit to Aonla assumed special significance as it was a move aimed at helping the posterity. Some of the plants which are on the verge of dying but have special medicinal properties have been judged the most vulnerable by IFFCO.

Mrs Awasthi sowed vermillion plant first while MD Dr Awasthi planted what is known as Kalpa briksha in Hindi. Several other plants were sowed by the team of Aonla on the occasion. Chief Conservator of forest M P Singh was also present on the occasion.

Underscoring the need to plant trees IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi urged his team to plant trees to save environment. In several tweets made earlier, Awasthi has exhorted his followers to plant one tree each.

IFFCO’s arm ‘Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative’ is active in the development of tree plantation enhancing the socio-economic status of rural poor through sustainable Natural Resource Management by collective action.

On the sidelines, while speaking before IFFCO’s employees in Bareilly, divisional commissioner PV Jaganmohan waxed lyrical about Dr. Awasthi’s commendable service for the Goliath of the cooperative sector spanning quarter century and said the real credit for the MD’s success goes to his wife Rekha Awasthi. The divisional commissioner wanted the government to decorate Dr. Awasthi with Padma Shri for his contributions, reports Times of India.
