ICRISAT launches Centre to boost South-South Cooperation

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), in partnership with the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), launched the ICRISAT Centre of Excellence for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture (ISSCA) in New Delhi.

This major initiative, unveiled during the Conference on Global South and Triangular Cooperation, aims to accelerate agricultural innovation and collaboration across the Global South.

A key highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between ICRISAT and DAKSHIN, a Government of India initiative focused on capacity building and development partnerships.

ISSCA will serve as a digital knowledge hub for peer learning and partnership building, offering low-cost, high-impact agricultural solutions. Leaders from ICRISAT, RIS, and ICAR emphasized ISSCA’s potential to drive inclusive agricultural growth, climate-smart practices, and technology adoption across countries with shared development challenges, reaffirming India’s leadership in global agricultural cooperation.
