India’s winning run in the global cooperative arena continues. After the landmark election of Harsh Sanghani as President of the ICA Global Youth Committee in July 2025, another young Indian leader has made the nation proud.
Abhishek Kumar from the National Yuva Cooperative Society Ltd. (NYCS) has been elected as the 2nd Vice Chairperson of the ICA-AP Youth Committee during the ongoing ICA-Asia Pacific General Assembly in Colombo.
In a competitive election conducted through ICYC’s electronic voting system, 23 votes were cast. Abhishek Kumar secured 10 votes, outperforming candidates from Iran and Jordan.
On his victory, ICA-AP President Dr. Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, ICA Global Youth Committee President Harsh Sanghani, and several other distinguished leaders warmly congratulated Abhishek Kumar, praising his achievement as a proud moment for India’s youth cooperative movement.

The ICA-AP Youth Committee is currently chaired by Ms. Dulce Busamante of the Philippines. The committee has two vice-chairpersons-Ms. Gelizabeth Cabuhat (Philippines) and the second seat, which had been vacant, has now been filled by Abhishek Kumar. His election is expected to energize the committee’s youth-focused agenda across the Asia-Pacific region.
It is noteworthy that during the recently concluded Co-op Kumbh at Vigyan Bhawan, inaugurated by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, Abhishek Kumar represented NYCS in the session “Youth in Cooperatives – Future Leadership and Innovation.”
There, he strongly advocated for increased youth participation in the cooperative movement, highlighting the need for innovation, leadership development, and global engagement.
