In a major relief measure for distressed farmers, the Himachal Pradesh government has announced an Agriculture Loan Interest Subvention Scheme under a one-time settlement policy. The scheme aims to help farmers whose agricultural land faces the threat of auction due to overdue loans.
Under the initiative, the state government will bear 50 per cent of the outstanding interest liability on agricultural loans of up to Rs 3 lakh per farmer. Around 6,356 farmers are expected to benefit, with the government earmarking Rs 50 crore for the programme. The scheme will be implemented through the Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank and Kangra Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the measure would ease financial stress, help regularise loans and protect farmers from losing their land. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening agriculture, promoting natural farming and improving farmers’ incomes through sustained support measures.
