Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde on Thursday inaugurated the newly built head office of Jalore Nagrik Sahakari Bank Ltd. in Jalore, using the occasion to underline the transformative role of cooperative institutions in India’s growth story.
Congratulating the bank, the Governor said cooperative banks are vital lifelines for small entrepreneurs, cottage industries, farmers, labourers and vegetable vendors, enabling them to access credit and expand their livelihoods.
“Cooperation empowers the poor and middle class with opportunities for self-employment, this is the true spirit of ‘sahakar’,” he noted.
Sharing his experiences, Bagde highlighted the importance of cooperatives in agriculture and dairy, stressing the need for transparency, efficiency and wider outreach to bring more underserved sections into the formal financial system.
He pointed to the success of the Jan Dhan Yojana, under which 56 crore bank accounts have been opened, ensuring direct benefit transfers to citizens. Emphasizing India’s journey towards a developed nation by 2047, he also cited reforms like NEP 2020 and women empowerment initiatives.
The event concluded with strong optimism around the expanding role of cooperatives in inclusive development.
