Gujarat: Amul to help fight malnourishment

The state government has inked a long term deal with the dairy cooperative to buy micro-nutrient fortified food -Take Home Ration (THR), worth around Rs 6,000 crore, reports TOI.

This is to help solve the problem of malnourishment among children, adolescent girls and pregnant women in the state, says govt sources. The milk cooperative will set up three new plants for the purpose.

THR ‘Balbhog’ is meant for children of six months to six years of age and ‘Sakhibhog’ for pregnant and lactating women and adolescent girls.

According to GCMMF officials, the new plants will be ready by September and Amul will start supplying THR by September-October.
