Graduates Co-op Bank goes to polls today

Karnataka based Graduates Cooperative Bank’s election process is on and voting will be held today i.e. 27 January at Maharaja Junior College. Nine candidates from general category are fighting the election for the posts of seven directors.

About 12,000 voters are eligible to cast their votes but more than 7 thousand voters are expected to vote in today’s election. Soon after the counting the result will be announced, said N Srinivasan, one of the contesting candidates to this correspondent on the phone.

Girish has been appointed as the returning officer. “There are 13 seats for directors in different categories i.e. 7 from general category, 2 from SC/ST category and 2 from women category and 2 from other backward classes”, added Srinivasan.

However, six candidates are already elected unopposed and nine candidates from general category are in the fray fighting for the positions of seven directors. About 21 nominations were filed on the day of nomination, informed Srinivasan who was also the ex-Chairman of Bank.

“Our bank is unit bank means having a single branch. The business mix of bank is about 90 crore and earned a net profit of over Rs 54 lakh in the last financial year. Our bank is in profit since inspection”, claimed Srinivasan.

Over the last days, candidates of Graduates’ Cooperative Bank have been busy organizing press conferences to seek support of members.

According to a local news outlet, Prof. Giri Gowda, one of the candidates for the post of director said in a recent press conference, “I have been one of the founders of Vijaya First Greade College at Pandavapura and have contributed more than 30 years writing books on Kannada grammar and folk writings. I have worked as the president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat for 15 years”.
