Govt ties up with Amul for therapeutic food

Amul Dairy which is one of the milk unions of GCMMF has signed MOUs with Gujarat govt for an investment of Rs. 450 crore in expansion plans and augmentation of therapeutic food for tackling severe acute malnutrition problem facing children and women, reports Indian Express.

Expansions will be carried out at different locations in Gujarat where Amul has most of its plants.

Amul MD adds MOUs have been signed as per SC guidelines that take home rations to prevent malnourishment are to be procured from cooperatives and not from private firms. So the Gujarat government has partnered with Amul for ensuring quality, supply and distribution of these ready-to-use therapeutic food (RTUF) which prevent malnutrition.

Amul will produce 4 different products, which will be in powder and paste form and will contain necessary vitamins and minerals to combat malnourishment, sources say.
