Govt targets NCP controlled co-ops

Chandrakant-

The state government has targeted some Congress and NCP-controlled district cooperative banks over delays in disbursing crop insurance benefits, reports New Indian Express.

Cooperatives Minister Chandrakant Patil indicated that the government was considering action against these banks after “receiving complaints that they were delayed passing on the benefits to farmers.”

Patil specifically named the banks in Parbhani, Beed, and Jalna while cautioning similar banking cooperatives against such behaviour. While the government appeared to suggest that there may be a ‘political design’ to the delay, the Opposition was quick to dub it as political vendetta.

While the banks allegedly received the money a fortnight ago and were expected to immediately settle claims, sources said that the government had received complaints that these three banks were yet to disburse the amount.
