Going Green: IFFCO wins global appreciation

The IFFCO team had a sense of elation right in the thick of Farmers Connect Campaign when MD Dr U S Awasthi revealed that the cooperative behemoth has always been foregrounding environmental concerns and in fact some of its units have even bagged international laurels.

The IFFCO Office buildings in Lucknow, Ahmadabad and Gurugram were Gold rated Green Buildings by the U.S. Green Building Council, MD Awasthi was quick to tweet. He also tweeted to inform that IFFCO Townships at Kalol, Kandla and Paradeep have been given Platinum Rated Green Residential Societies by IGBC online.

While the U.S. Green Building Council is a USA headquartered body having been active in over 165 countries worldwide, IGBC is part of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII)- Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, which is actively involved in promoting the Green Building concept in India.

The U.S. Green Building Council offers the most widely used green building rating system in the world. “We’re committed to a sustainable, prosperous future through LEED, the leading program for green buildings and communities worldwide”, claims the US body.

By way of its support to the goals of environment, the fertilizer cooperative has been making efforts to make a difference by encouraging farming in a way that does not harm the global climate.

A great votary of climatic balance IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi says environmental pollution, disturbances and ongoing climate change pose great threats to the world food-security system and thus there is an urgent need to Save the Soil and thus Save the Earth. Besides other things, this is one of the important messages he is carrying around in rural areas these days, said one of his teammates.
