The Sinnar police in Nashik district have arrested Namkaran Aware (65), former chairman of Shri Jagdamba Mata Gramin Bigar Sheti Sahakari Pat Sanstha, in connection with an alleged bogus account and cheating case involving astrologer Ashok Kharat. A local court remanded Aware to police custody till May 18, media reports say.
Police alleged that between 2016 and 2023, the accused opened 32 fake accounts without proper documentation, including two in the names of deceased persons, and routed large financial transactions through them.
Investigators said account holders were unaware of the transactions. Police are probing forged documents, alleged commissions earned from the transactions, and links with Kharat’s Shiwanika Trust.
