Reacting to the Economic Survey, Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the data highlights the resilience and sustained growth of Indian agriculture and rural India. He noted that agriculture and allied sectors have grown at an average annual rate of about 4.4 percent in recent years, outperforming the global average.
Foodgrain production touched a record 357.73 million tonnes in 2024–25, driven by higher output of rice, wheat, maize and millets, strengthening India’s food security and global position. Horticulture has emerged as a key growth engine, contributing nearly one-third of agricultural value and placing India among the world’s top producers of fruits, vegetables and onions.
Chouhan said the Survey also reflects major gains in rural roads, housing, digital land records and women-led livelihoods, underlining the impact of consistent policy focus on inclusive rural growth.
