DACS urges Defence Ministry to restore old Contract

The Denzong Agricultural Co-operative Society (DACS), a premier Government of Sikkim undertaking and apex cooperative body, intensified its efforts to restore the earlier system of three-year contract sanctions for supplying essential items to the Indian Armed Forces.

On Monday, Satish Chandra Rai, MLA and Chairman of DACS, along with Managing Director Dhiraj Pradhan, held a series of high-level meetings in New Delhi.

The delegation first met Rajesh Kumar Singh, IAS, Defence Secretary, and senior Army officers, pressing for the reinstatement of three-year negotiated contracts, earlier granted during 2017–2020 and 2020–2023, which were reduced to annual sanctions in 2024–25 and 2025–26.

They highlighted that longer-term sanctions are crucial for the cooperative’s operational continuity, financial stability, and the welfare of Sikkim’s farmers.

The team also met Lt. Gen. Mukesh Chaddha, Lt. Gen. Ajai Ramdev, and Maj. Gen. G.S. Chaudhary, who assured that the request would be positively examined.

DACS expressed optimism for a favourable decision, given its long-standing cooperative service to the Armed Forces.
