In a major political upset, the Congress-backed Kisan Parivartan Panel has swept the election to the Bardoli Cooperative Sugar Factory in Gujarat, winning all 14 contested seats and ending the dominance of the incumbent Sahakar Panel.
Of the 15 seats, one was elected unopposed, while elections were held for the remaining 14. The results have paved the way for a change in leadership at one of Gujarat’s prominent cooperative sugar institutions.
In the closely watched contest, young Congress leader Tarun Vaghela defeated sitting BJP MLA Ishwar Parmar by 542 votes. Vaghela secured 1,424 votes, compared with Parmar’s 882 votes.
Former District Panchayat President Bhavesh Patel was also among the prominent leaders defeated in the election.
The victory triggered celebrations among Kisan Parivartan Panel supporters, who burst firecrackers across Bardoli. The panel’s election symbol was a tractor, and supporters, including women, celebrated the victory by driving tractors.
