Co-ops: West Bengal rises to modernization call

Though a laggard when it comes to cooperative movement, West Bengal Government shows signs of waking up. It has announced to computerize cooperative banks under its control to help rural population access the latest banking services, reports UNI.

Initially, of the 29,000 cooperative banks in the state, 3,000 would be computerized. Official sources say, the remaining cooperative banks will technologically modernized in the next couple of years.

The State Cooperation Minister recently said his department will lend Rs 75 crore through cooperative banks in rural areas.
