Co-op banks of Vidharva have no fund

District collector of Yavatmal in Vidharva region of Maharashtra is worried that the big nationalized banks are not willing to give poor farmers crop loans , says the Times of India. The sad part is that the cooperative banks which generally come forward to help farmers are without fund.

The whole district is facing this problem. The nationalized banks offer all kinds of baseless excuses either delaying or denying farmers’ crop loan applications, he said in a meeting of the bank officials summoned in his chamber for the review of the crop loan distribution for the coming sowing season.

The target of the nationalized banks for the current year was Rs 880 crore of which they could release only Rs 410 crore which is 49% of their target.

However, officials of the nationalized banks have complained that there are a number of eligible farmers whose names are missing from the list provided to them.

Meanwhile, the Yavatmal District Central Co-Operative Bank has demanded funds from Maharashtra State Co-Operative Bank for the restructuring of the crop loan for the fiscal 2013-14 for 21,157 eligible farmers, knowledgeable sources close to the DCCB said.
