Mumbai-based Citizencredit Co-operative Bank Ltd. is set to witness a keen contest for its Board of Directors for the 2026–2031 term, with 28 candidates remaining in the fray for 14 seats, while the newly created Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) reserved seat has been filled unopposed.
Following the withdrawal of nominations, 24 candidates will contest 12 General Category seats, while four candidates are competing for two Women Category seats. In the SC/ST category, Veronica Susngi Miranda has been elected unopposed as the sole candidate for the reserved seat.
Notably, this is the first time the bank has introduced a separate SC/ST reserved seat in its Board elections. The bank previously had a 14-member Board of Directors, and the current election also marks a significant transition in its leadership.
Of the outgoing Board members, six directors are contesting the current election, while around eight have completed the maximum permissible 10-year tenure and are consequently unable to continue under the applicable RBI provisions.
The election has also taken an interesting turn with two panels emerging. One is being led by outgoing director Anthony D’Souza, who is believed to carry considerable influence in the electoral contest. The rival panel is led by Joseph Mascarenhas, setting the stage for a closely watched battle for the bank’s boardroom.
Polling is scheduled for November 13, 2026, while the results will be declared on November 27, 2026. The elected Board will serve a five-year term from 2026 to 2031.
The Office of the Returning Officer published the list of valid nominations on November 2, following scrutiny of nomination papers. The nomination process was conducted from October 26 to October 30, 2026.
