The Ministry of Cooperation has nominated Deepak Chaurasia, National General Secretary of Sahakar Bharti, as the Central Government’s nominee on the Governing Council of the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI).
According to an order issued by the Ministry, the nomination has been made in terms of the proviso to sub-section (1) of Section 48 of the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, read with Bye-law No. 14(a)(v) of NCUI.
The order states that Deepak Chaurasia has been nominated as the Central Government nominee on the Governing Council of NCUI with immediate effect and until further orders.
A native of Bihar, Chaurasia is a trained engineer and currently serves as the National General Secretary of Sahakar Bharti. He is known for maintaining cordial relations across the political spectrum, including leaders from the RJD, JD(U), and BJP.
He comes from a distinguished political family. His father, Shri Ganga Prasad, served as the Governor of Sikkim and was also the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council. Despite his family’s political background, Chaurasia has remained focused on the cooperative movement rather than active politics.
