S.R. Sathishchandra, President of CAMPCO, has welcomed the announcement regarding the proposed establishment of the ‘Prof. U.R. Rao Advanced Science Centre’ in Udupi. He stated that the initiative, once implemented, would become a major milestone for scientific education and research in the coastal region.
On this occasion, it was recalled that former CAMPCO President A. Kishore Kumar Kodgi had, as early as 2023, submitted a proposal to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the establishment of an Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) laboratory unit in Udupi district. The proposal aimed at honouring the scientists associated with India’s prestigious Chandrayaan missions and promoting advanced space science research in the region.
The proposal had highlighted the significant contribution of Scientists from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts to India’s space programmes. It had also strongly advocated the establishment of a scientific institution in memory of the late Prof. Udupi Ramachandra Rao, the internationally renowned space scientist from Udupi who played a key role in strengthening India’s space research capabilities.
The proposed science centre, estimated to be developed at a cost of around ?6.2 crore on a five-acre campus, is expected to feature facilities including an Aero-Space Gallery and other scientific attractions aimed at inspiring students and young researchers towards science, innovation, and space technology.
S.R.Sathishchandra further expressed hope that more such premier scientific and research institutions would be established in the coastal region in future.
