Budget a boon for small farmers: Sodhi

The Union Budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is positive. It is fully dedicated to small farmers and common men, said R S Sodhi reacting to the budget.

Especially the PM Gati Shakti is going to help the farmers as it will help them connect well so that they can sell their produce at a better margin, felt Sodhi.

Sodhi said that the announcement made for Natural Farming will help the government curtail the cost of disbursing the subsidy for the fertilizer, which runs into hundreds of crores. “The impact of this move would be visible soon”, he added.

Sodhi lauded a budgetary plan to link 1.50 lakh post offices with the Core Banking Solutions (CBS). Most of our farmers, about 60% of them, are still connected to the post office and this move will be beneficial for them, he added.

Besides, in order to level the playing field, the government has reduced the tax from the cooperative societies, which is commendable. The government has reduced the Alternative Minimum Tax from 18 percent to 15 percent. The reduction in surcharge will benefit the small district cooperative dairy unions, he concluded.
