Bihar has taken a major step towards strengthening its cooperative sector by approving a new warehousing initiative for the financial year 2026–27.
According to a post shared by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the state has approved a plan to create 48,200 metric tonnes of additional storage capacity through the construction of warehouses with capacities of 200, 500 and 1,000 metric tonnes.
A total of 52 selected cooperative societies will benefit from the scheme. The government has sanctioned Rs 34.95 crore, with the assistance structured as 50% grant and 50% revolving capital.
The initiative is aimed at expanding storage infrastructure at the grassroots level and strengthening the capacity of cooperative societies to support farmers and agricultural activities.
The move is expected to improve local storage facilities, reduce post-harvest challenges and strengthen the role of cooperatives in Bihar’s rural economy.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary highlighted the initiative as an important step towards building a stronger and more self-reliant cooperative sector in the state.
